Nicole Lucas Hallson, a mother of two lovely children, Asher and Winry, embarks on a profound mission. Her goal is to challenge the notion that perfection lies in our imperfections. With unwavering determination, she seeks to affirm the inherent beauty of her baby daughter, born with a rare birthmark.

As per Good Morning America, little Winry Hall was born with an extremely rare birthmark known as congenital melanocytic nevi, or CMN.

As a consequence, at just 13 months old, Winry stands out from her peers with a distinctive birthmark that spans a quarter of her face. This unique characteristic sets her apart in a remarkable way.

Nicole, a dedicated teacher, was taken aback with genuine concern as the nurses gently placed Winry in her arms after the delivery in February 2021.

Her pregnancy was uneventful, and she never anticipated her daughter would develop a skin condition.

”I was lucky to have a pretty average pregnancy! I had morning sickness from about weeks 8-14, but as soon as that let up I felt great until the tiredness kicked in the last month,” she writes on her blog.

Nicole believed that the medical professionals were probably the ones who had noticed the CMN. However, they chose not to mention it, opting instead to share their joy and offer congratulations on the smooth and effortless delivery.

Nic received confirmation that Winry’s vital signs were stable and in excellent condition.

After finished nursing her infant daughter, she fixed her gaze upon Winry. Initially, the perplexed mother erroneously perceived the prominent mark on Winry’s head as a simple bruise.

“It was then quickly apparent to my husband and I that it was not a bruise. And like the name, I thought it looked a lot like a mole,” Nicole says.

In her blog, Nicole has described her feelings.

”Some of the excitement of labor had passed, and I would say worry was the main emotion I felt – I recognized that it resembled a mole, but I had never seen anything like it, and I was worried it might be harmful to her. None of the nurses had said anything about it at this point, but I wasn’t sure what to ask so I just held her tight and loved on her.”

As per a report by the National Organization for Rare Diseases, Congenital Melanocytic Nevus (CMN) manifests as patches in varying shades of light brown or black, capable of appearing in any size and on any part of the body.

Nicole and her partner are now determined to celebrate their daughter’s individuality, aiming to inspire others to embrace and take pride in their uniqueness instead of feeling ashamed.

“For a lot of people, this is the first time seeing a birthmark like hers and that’s part of why I enjoy sharing,” Hall said.

“This is a good conversation for parents with their children to see kids have differences, or for those parents who do have a kid that looks like Winry or has any kind of a birthmark to see their child represented.”

Due to Winry’s birthmark, which could potentially increase her susceptibility to melanoma (skin cancer), her parents take diligent measures to safeguard her skin. However, Nicole expresses greater concern about the possibility of her daughter facing bullying in the future.

“Her health and happiness are our top priority. We have to monitor her with sunscreen. I’m careful with hats and that sort of thing,” Hall explained to Good Morning America.

“I know our regular dermatology appointment is probably going to be our best friend growing up.”

When it comes to Winry’s perspective on the world, she is a joyous and vibrant little girl who radiates an air of blissful innocence. In essence, she embodies the pure essence of childhood, embodying everything that a baby should be.

“She just radiates joy. She’s almost always laughing or shrieking,” Hall said. “She is just the happiest baby I have ever seen.

“She’s a big talker already. We haven’t got a whole lot of words out, but she tells you like it is and she’s already getting a little bit of sassiness, so I think we’re gonna have a lot on our hands.”
